CELEBRATION!

We like to think that we fellas here at Simon Carter are quite stylish. And while we specialize in menswear, we can't possibly leave ladies out of the sartorial equation. So, we'd like to introduce you gents to an emerging trend among our female counterparts: the 'arm party.'

A term coined by The Man Repeller, an arm party is basically a celebration of accessories. Imagine (if you have sisters, or even if you can recall from your own personal experience - we're not judging) taking the great game of dress-up and applying it to day-to-day life - and as an adult! In public! Better yet, don't imagine it at all. We'll just show you:

In February, we told you about our new women's watches, and we've recently added more colours to the collection. Give a lady in your life the gift of the arm party, and give her a watch - or three - to add to the soirée.

DON'T FORGET TO WRITE

It's summer time, the weather is warm, and the kids are almost finished school, which can only mean one thing: Summer vacation!

So whether you're going to down south, across the pond, or maybe just enjoying your own backyard, don't forget to drop your loved ones a line to let them know how much fun you're having, or that you wish they were her(e).

LOOK OF THE DAY

We hope you've all enjoyed the long weekend, but now it's Tuesday, and that means it's time to get back to work. Fortunately, a long weekend means a short work week!

In honour of Prince Charles' visit to Toronto (and today's weather forecast) we've created a look fit to wear to one of our favourite, classy outdoor affairs - the garden party.

NEWS FLASH

You didn't think we'd leave you without a proper Look of the day, did you?

As much as we're all about the Chelsea blue at the moment, we still believe that every man, athlete or not, needs a good suit to wear - even during sports events. Now we're not talking about the players who are going to be on the field, but rather, the starters who have been injured during the season and will be unable to play.

We wish those fellas well, and seeing as how they're likely to be excessively photographed during the big game, we also wish that they'd throw on something nice while they cheer on their teammates!

LOOK OF THE DAY: CHELSEA BLUE

(And sometimes green.)

This one's pretty self-explanatory.

Just a friendly reminder to you all that we're offering some great discounts, if you come by the shop and cheer for our favourite team on Wednesday, May 16th! See you there!

LOOK OF THE DAY

Today's look is inspired by musician Andrew Bird, who executes his impressive musical talent as effortlessly as his style. It's difficult to go wrong wearing jeans, a shirt, and a vest. A casual; uncomplicated outfit that still looks put-together and classic is a definite winner in our books!

SURPRISE!

It's finally time to announce that we have a new addition to the Simon Carter family! Everyone, meet Carter.

This little guy will be a permanent fixture at the shop, and we are so excited to have him. Stop by, check out what sort of shenanigans Carter's getting into, and say "Hello!" Carter loves visitors.

PROM 101

We can't help you with your dancing, and unfortunately - although we'd really love to - we also can't help you find a date. You see, the art of wooing is not just something we can blog about, willy-nilly. That's privilaged information! However, once you've got your moves down and your date sorted out, we can definitately help you make sure you look your best.

After getting your haircut, brushing your teeth, and making sure you aren't wearing the same socks you had on in gym class, looking your best starts with your suit. Any suit, (Well, almost any. See the above photographs) off-the-rack, bespoke, or designer will look exponentially better once you've got the right fit. And just the same, any suit: off-the-rack, bespoke, or designer can look terrible when ill-fitting. Here are some things to look for when trying on suits to make sure you've got the perfect fit.

1. Shoulder pads end with your shoulders.*

2. The top button of a two-button suit — or the middle button of a three-button suit — should not fall below your navel.

3. With your arms at your sides, your knuckles should be even with the bottom of your jacket.

4. Jacket sleeves should fall where the base of your thumb meets your wrist. Between a quarter and a half inch of shirt cuff should be visible.

5. One inch of break. A "break" is where your pants fall on your shoes, creating a horizontal crease in the fabric across the front of your pant leg.

Pretty simple, right?

And with that, may your prom date be in awe of your good looks, your dancing impressive, and your luck favourable - if you catch our drift.

*If your suit's got shoulder pads that look like THIS, do not - I repeat - do not wear them, even if they do happen to fit properly.
