TIE BARS

Tie bars: a classic men's accessory that has, to our delight, recently become popular again. The important thing to note when trying out a new accessory, is that you're wearing it well - so here are a few pointers:

Our first, and probably most important tip is to keep it narrow. Don't - we repeat - DO NOT wear a tie bar that's wider than your tie.

A common mistake men make when wearing a tie bar is wearing it too high or too low. The rule is to wear it between the third and fourth buttons of your shirt. And there you have it, folks. It's just that simple.

Now go forth, and wear your tie bar.

LOOK OF THE DAY

Here at Simon Carter, we're all pretty big fans of patterns and bold colours. However, we realize that sometimes, wearing patterns and bold colours at the same time may be a little bit intimidating - especially if your usual outfits consist of a white shirt and trousers.

So, if you're feeling adventurous, we suggest you keep it simple. A louder pattern can be muted when paired with a pair of classic, dark denim. A jacket over a shirt like the one pictured above serves to show just a touch of colour, making your outfit more subtle. The bottom line is, if you want to wear colour, wear it! There are many ways to add interest to an outfit without looking like Craig Sager.

FATHER'S DAY

Father's day is only a few days away, so we thought we'd give you a few gift ideas.

For outdoors-y dads:
Even dads who live in their hiking boots and cargo shorts need to dress up sometimes. A great way to incorporate the great outdoors on a suit is by adding touches of colours seen in nature. You can also get literal and add some cufflinks in the shape of bugs, frogs, or acorns.

For tech-y dads:
We think a nice iPad case, as well as some other sleek accessories would be perfect for the tech-saavy man. When you're a lover of gadgets, it's always better to look like James Bond, as opposed to Steve Urkel.

We also suggest  these cufflinks that double as a case for Aspirin, because we all know that dad's have a tendency to endure a lot of our headache-inducing behaviour. Plus, it's a great way to show your appreciation, AND apologize for being an occasional pain.

And when all else fails, there's always the tried-and-true gift that's sure to please:
Socks! (And maybe a pair of Loake's too, if you really want to get fancy.)

THE ELDREDGE KNOT

During our daily search for sartorial inspiration, we came across this image from thisfellow:

The entire outfit is a hit in our books, but what really caught out attention was that tie knot. It looks cool, and is actually a lot easier to tie than it looks. Below is our attempt at step-by-step instructions. However, we also suggest checking out this video if you should require more detailed instructions.

And there you have it, folks! The Eldredge knot.
